Signing Out

The blogging thing has been going on for almost 3 years now. As you can tell, the number of posts have dwindled off quite a bit over these past couple of months.

I'm unmotivated and too tired these days to keep up with this, so I'm taking a break for a while. Perhaps some inspiration will hit me down the road but until then, enjoy the journey.

Yea!!! Finally Sold.

I've finally sold the trunk liner and sun shade from my Mercedes. After trying on every on-line forum for Mercedes and then Craigslist, the pair are finally sold.

With only a few responses from the forums, and all of them from either California or New York (shipping killed the great deal I was offering) I was about to give up hope.

I posted on the local Craigslist only to find more disappointment; I didn't receive an single inquiry for the first two weeks. The parts had been in my office at work (in preparation to ship it internationally), when I get two inquires from Craigslist within two days.

Like most people had described, the deal went smoothly. Although the buyers were unsure about the sun shade, I made them a deal they couldn't refuse as I didn't want to try to sell it by itself.

Yea!!! Now this barely pays for the new trunk liner for my new car, let alone the sun shade. Now I have to do something about the extra set of wheels that I have...

Bumper Heaven Or Hell

Do you ever wonder where 'used' bumpers comes from? Or even where does all the bumpers that cannot be fixed by the auto body shops after an accident goes?

No?!?!.... I guess it's just me then. So to satisfy my own question, they probably wind up somewhere like this place:

In the building behind this pile is a company that brings in bumpers by the trailer loads and 'reconditions' them. There are no preferences to model or makes. They apparently bring in a trailer almost daily and the pile in the photos are the ones that cannot be saved.

Recycling the old bumpers is a good thing, but one has to wonder what is going to go on with the ones that they cannot recycle back into the system...

It's Painted

The house is finally done. After a few days of uncooperative weather the 4 day job stretched to two weeks, but it's finally done.

I think the colour looks quite good. It is a good as I could expect it to be given all the anxieties over finding the 'right' colour. As far as the base colour goes, I am very happy. The colour doesn't match the roof tiles as well as I would have hoped (and this was one of the anxieties that I had), but it's no worst than some of the other homes in the neighbourhood.

The colour has the exact effect that I was looking for, a cool tone that made the white windows 'pop' and gives it a natural accent. What amazed me is that the gold trim of the mail box and door handles also goes well with this colour scheme (IMO). I never really considered it and was going to change out the gold for a pewter or polished nickel, but given the nice contrast, I may just keep it like this for a bit.

By the way, my house use to be the same colour as the one to the right in the photo.

The Sweet Smell of Summer

It's going to be a stinky summer. The municipalities of the Lower Mainland are all heading towards strike action. This includes the garbage disposal and operations of city landfills.

We've been fortunate that the weather hasn't been that great so there isn't a lot of side effect now. However the weather is suppose to be heating up this week and with that the smell of the garbage throughout the city.

It's no coincident that this occurs in the summer. We would have less care in fall or winter, but being a tourist city and an Olympic Host City for 2010, this really plays on the media and our international image. The last thing we want to be know for is a smelly city.

The last time the city workers went on strike, I was duly reminded that it lasted for roughly 6-8 weeks! Yikes!!!

Get ready to hold your breath.

Really Negligent

I've been really bad. I haven't dedicated as much time to adding any new posts for a while and I blame the extreme weather for this.

Since I've gotten my car, we have experienced a week of extremely hot weather that encroached upwards of 37 degrees in the Lower Mainland and then followed by a week of humid rainy weather. We've now 2mm shy of the normal rainfall for July and there is still 8 more days left. Some summer we're having...

Throughout all of this, the painting on my house has started. The painter had a slow start but within 3 days has the garage and almost the entire house painted (less the front) painted in the base colour. He had to stop due to the rain and I've been waiting patiently for the weather to improve so he can complete.

I've had good comments all ready from the colour (including my neighbour, which is a good thing), and I really think it works. The colour doesn't exactly go as well with the colour of the roof, but what can you do?!? There is only so much you can compromise. The colour is Wild Sage from Behr and the white window frames really pops against the colour. This is the exact effect that I was looking for. Once the painter completes the front and paints all the trim white, it should look amazing.

I've been a bit lazy in taking some pictures but will have some in the next day or so.

Water Bar

How much would you pay for water?

It's well known that we in the Lower Mainland are spoiled with the great fresh water that we get right out of the tap. Although many of us still feel safer drinking water out of a bottle, if you've traveled to other cities in the world, your would realize how lucky we really are.

Take for example, only in a city like New York could you find a water bar where bottled water from BC can go for as high as US$30 [sun]. That's right for water! Not wine but water.

I feel like an ultra cheapo now that I just purchase a 30 bottle flat from Home Depot for Cdn$2.49.

Really?!?!

I came across this link from another blogger and thought that it would be interesting to find out how my blog rated.

Free Online Dating

Well, that's a bit pedestrian isn't it? The only offensive item they found was the use of the word gun which apparently I used once. What I have determined is that this site doesn't look at your entire blog but just what ever comes up on the main screen. I guess I'll have to see if I can spice this up a bit.

The Main Event

Haven't had time to detail the car or take pictures yet, however for those that want to know what it looks like, here are some pictures from the dealership's web ad.
